| biography:
| Sculptors and brothers: Nicolas Coustou (1658–1733) and Guillaume Coustou (1677–1746), born in Lyon, SC France. From a family of sculptors, they studied under their uncle Antoine Coysevox. Influenced by the Baroque, both were awarded first prize at the Académie and became court sculptors at Versailles, the Trianon, and Marly. Guillaume's masterpiece is the series Chevaux de Marly (1745), the most famous sculptures of their time, now standing in the Place de la Concorde. |
