| Sculptor and painter, born in Paris, France. The son of a Parisian goldsmith, he became the greatest of the ‘animaliers’, creating bronze animal statues, now in the Louvre. He was also one of the major Romantic artists of the 19th-c, painting landscapes in the Barbizon style. He executed the equestrian Napoléon for Ajáccio, Napoléon's birthplace. |
