| Financier, patron of the arts, and leading conservationist, born in Graff-Reiner, South Africa. He trained as a chemist at Pretoria University, then taught there before turning to a business career. He is the founder and retired chairman of the Rembrandt Group of Companies, and the doyen of Afrikaans language business. He became Chancellor of the University of Pretoria, and director of the SA Reserve Bank. He has received international recognition for services rendered to the conservation of fauna and flora, and has written widely on South African issues. |
