| Journalist and television presenter, born in Liverpool, NW England, UK. She was educated at Farnborough Hill Convent, Hampshire, and in Paris. She joined the Daily Mail (1966–7) and Sunday Times (1968–77), becoming a columnist for the Daily Mirror (1980–93), Today (1993–5), The Times (1994–5), and The Sun (1995). For BBC television she presented Points of View (1988) and the consumer programme Watchdog (1993–2001). In 2000 she became known as the formidable presenter of the quiz game The Weakest Link, and successfully took the show to NBC television in the USA the following year. |
