| Ceramicist, born in Merchantville, New Jersey, USA. She was largely a self-taught expert on prehistoric ceramics who was affiliated with the Carnegie Institution and the US Geological Survey. She performed rigorous scientific analyses of pottery from the American Southwest and Mesoamerica, often with controversial results. Her books include the standard Ceramics for the Archaeologist (1957). |
