| Aircraft designer, born in Moscow, Russia. From 1922 he headed the design office of the central aerohydrodynamics institute in Moscow, producing over 100 types of aircraft, and in 1955 he built the first Soviet civil jet, the Tu-104. In 1968 he completed the first test flight of a supersonic passenger aircraft, the Tu-144. |
