| biography:
| Journalist, born in Evanston, Illinois, USA. Working as the Baltimore Sun's Washington bureau chief, he was dismissed after being unmasked as an anonymous co-author of a political exposé, the Washington Merry-Go-Round (1931). He then began a syndicated ‘muckraking’ column of the same name, in partnership at first with the book's co-author, Robert Allen, and also carried on a popular radio show. The column was taken over after his death by Jack Anderson, its associate writer after 1947. |
