| biography:
| Economist and educator, born in Newellton, Louisiana, USA. A sharecropper's son, he served two years in the army before studying economics at the University of Washington, and then Harvard (1957, PhD). He worked as an economist for the Federal Reserve Board and taught economics at Michigan State University. In 1966 he became a member of the Federal Reserve Board, where he followed a moderate course on monetary policy, especially on issues involving taxation, government spending, and inflation. He left the board (1976) to establish his own investment and consultant firm, Brimmer & Co. |
