| biography:
| Photographer, born in Budapest, Hungary. He started as a photographer in 1912, using glass plates, and served as a photographer with the Hungarian army in World War 1. He moved to Paris, where he was acclaimed for his unposed photographs, and strongly influenced Brassai and Cartier-Bresson. He went to the USA in 1936, and became a US citizen in 1944. His fashion work in New York City in the 1940s and 1950s became more glossily conventional, and he did not return to a more individual creative style until 1962. |
