| Film director, born in Carcassonne, S France. A former lawyer turned journalist, he wrote a few novels and became involved in making films. Three of his films harked back to his legal background: Justice est faite (1950), Nous sommes tous des assassins (1952, trans Death Penalty), and Le Dossier noir (1955, trans The Life of a Judge), which raised questions and provoked interest. These were followed by films dealing with social problems, such as Á Chacun son enfer (1977) and Raison d'Etat (1978). |
