| Film critic, born in Angers, NW France. A pioneer of French film criticism and education, he organized ciné-clubs, courses, and seminars on the cinema in the 1940s. He also edited a number of film journals, including La Revue du cinéma and Radio-Cinéma. In 1951 he co-founded Les Cahiers du cinéma, and directed it until his death in 1958. |
