| King of the Visigoths, the son of Alaric II. He succeeded his step-brother Gesaleic in 511 and was under the guardianship of his grandfather Theodoric until 526. To strengthen his relationship with the Franks, he married Clotilda de Meroving (497–531); when Clotilda was forced to convert to Arianism, she asked her brother Childebert for help and he defeated Amalaric at Narbonne in 531. |
