| biography:
| Count of Savoia, born at the Bourget Castle, Savoy, SE France. The second-born of Tommaso II, he inherited the title in 1285. He was involved in a series of struggles with the dauphins of Grenoble and the bishops of Geneva, but managed to maintain a good relationship with France, which he supported in Flanders and the Empire. Henry VII appointed him imperial vicar for Lombardy, and added Asti to his possessions. |
