| Economist, born in Viborg, South Dakota, USA. He was instrumental in promoting Keynesian economic theory in the USA. During his years at Harvard (1937–57), he also served as an adviser to the Council on Social Security (1937–8) and the Federal Reserve System (1940–5) and he contributed to the creation of the Full Employment Act of 1946. |
