| biography:
| Composer, born in Bargoed, Caerphilly, S Wales, UK. He studied in Cardiff, and taught at the College of Music and Drama there before joining the music staff at University College, Cardiff in 1959, becoming professor (1967–87, now emeritus). In 1967 he was co-founder of the Cardiff Festival, serving as artistic director (1967–89) and president (1990– ). He is a prolific composer of operas, symphonies, concertos, and a large corpus of choral and chamber works. |
