| biography:
| Inventor, born in Prague, Czech Republic. He became an actor and playwright and, while trying to engrave printing plates to publish his plays, accidentally discovered the technique of lithography by using a grease pencil on limestone (1796). After various trials he opened an establishment of his own in Offenbach-am-Main, and later in Munich to train others in the process. |
