| Writer, born in Munich, SE Germany. A professor of political geography in Berlin, in 1945 he was arrested and executed for his role in the plot against Hitler (20 Jul 1944). He wrote poetry, such as Richtfeuer (1932) and Gastgeschenk (1938), and classical plays in which he used historical parallels for his criticism of National Socialism. These include Scipio (1934), Scilla (1938), and Augustus (1939). His Moabiter Sonette (1936) is one of the most important pieces of resistance literature. |
