| biography:
| Astronaut, born near Kemerovo, SC Russia. He trained at the Chuguyev Air Force Flying School, and joined the astronaut corps in 1959. In 1965 he made the first ‘extra-vehicular-activity’ (EVA) excursion from the spacecraft Voskhod 2 in orbit round the Earth, ‘walking’ in space for 10 minutes. In 1975 he took part in the joint US–USSR Apollo-Soyuz space mission. |
