| biography:
| Naturalist and geologist, born in Paris, France. From 1808 professor at the Sorbonne and Museum of Natural History, he was also director of the porcelain manufactory at Sèvres from 1800. He introduced the term Jurassic for the limestones and clays of the Cotswolds. His son Adolphe Théodore Brongniart (1801–76) was a noted botanist. |
