| Sculptor, born in Kiev, Ukraine. He studied at the Kiev School of Art (1902–5) and in Paris (1908–21), where he was influenced by Cubism, and became famous for his combinations of sculpture and painting, as in ‘Medrano II’ (1914). After 1923 he settled in New York City, and taught at many institutions, including the New Bauhaus at Chicago (1937–9). |
