| biography:
| Strip cartoonist, born in New Rochelle, New York, USA. After a brief career in finance, he studied at the Grand Central School of Art, and became an assistant on a cartoon strip. From 1930 he was with the King Features Syndicate and created a number of outstandingly popular adventure strips, including Jungle Jim and the science-fiction adventurer Flash Gordon (both 1934). In 1946 he created Rip Kirby, the intellectual detective. |
