| Stage director, born in Hunstanton, Norfolk, E England, UK. He worked at the Bristol Old Vic (1971–3), and the Royal Court Theatre, London (1972–8), before joining the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1977, where he became associate director (1984–91), and honorary associate director (1991– ). From 1993 to 2001 he was artistic director of the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. |
