| Writer, born in Milan, Lombardy, N Italy. He lived in France and Britain before settling in Rome, where he was a contributor to the review Il Caffè. His works include the historical novel Le avventure di Saffo (1780) and the pre-Romantic Notti romane al sepolcro degli Scipioni (1804) which he wrote after the discovery of the Scipioni tombs. He also wrote tragedies, such as Pantea (1779), and translated Shakespeare. |
