| Oil executive, born in Vinton, Louisiana, USA. He spent his career in the oil industry. He was founder and president of Ocean Drilling & Exploration Co (1953–74, chief executive officer and chairman 1974–7), where he invented the mobile offshore oil-drilling rig (1954). He was later an industry consultant (1977–85) and chief executive officer and chairman of Gulf Island Fabrication Co (1985). |
