| biography:
| German ruler, born in Reuß bei Brugg, the son of Rudolf I von Habsburg, Duke of Austria (1282) and Styria. He fought for the crown of the Holy Roman Empire and the power of the Habsburg dynasty. He challenged his predecessor Adolf von Nassau who fell in battle at Göllheim, near Worms in 1298, and was elected king that year. He renewed his alliance with Philippe IV of France at Quatrevaux and built up a strong military force aimed at expansion to the E part of C Europe, placing his short-lived son, Rudolf, on the Bohemian throne. Albrecht was murdered by his nephew, Johann Parricida, whom he had disinherited. |
