| King of Bohemia and Hungary (1437–9), born in Neszmely bei Komarom, Hungary. Duke Albrecht V of Austria since 1404, he was elected king in 1437 in succession to his father-in-law, Sigismund. In 1438 he was also elected German king but was never crowned. Under his rule, Austria, Bohemia, and Hungary were united for the first time. A persecutor of the Hussites and Jews, he died after his campaign against the Turks. |
