| King of Germany (as Lothar II) and of Italy. He clashed repeatedly with Conrad of Swabia for the throne. He supported Innocent II against antipope Anacleto II, who was backed by the Norman king Ruggero II. Lothar was crowned emperor by Innocent in 1133; he then defeated Conrad in Germany (1135) and Ruggero (1136) in Italy. |
