| Writer, born in Langenbeutingen, near Heilbronn, SW Germany. He became a Protestant priest in 1930, and was an intelligence officer and hospital chaplain during World War 2. His writing is in the classical and Romantic traditions, and his realistic method of portrayal is tempered by Christian humanism. His works includes the novel Unruhige Nacht (1950), which raises the question of guilt, while Das Brandopfer (1954) deals with Nazi terror. |
