| Psychologist and writer, born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. He studied at Columbia University (1947 PhD), taught at Rutgers University (1948–9), and practised clinical psychology from 1950. He published many books on psychology and sexual behaviour, and is best known as the developer of Rational-Emotive Psychotherapy, which rejects Freudian theories to assert that emotions come from conscious as well as unconscious sources. His books include Sex Without Guilt (1966). |
