| Physical chemist, born in Sioux City, Iowa, USA. He studied at the University of California, Berkeley, and became professor of physics at the University of California, Santa Barbara (1982). In 2000 he shared the Nobel Prize for Chemistry with Alan MacDiarmid and Hideki Shirakawa for their discovery and development of conductive polymers. |
