| French athlete, born in Telagh, Algeria. A champion cross-country runner, he won the Olympic gold medal in 1956 in the marathon. In 1948 he won a total of four Olympic medals and was world cross-country champion. During his career he won 32 French championships in long distance, half-distance, cross-country, and marathon, and remains the most decorated athlete in France. |
