| French sailor who held the record for sailing round the world solo in his trimaran Manureva (formerly Eric Tarbarley's boat Pen Duick IV). In 1974 he beat the world solo record with a trans-Pacific crossing in 37 days, in the same boat. He disappeared in November 1978 while sailing Manureva near the Azores during the Route du Rhum race. |
