| biography:
| Poet and political writer, born in Bayeux, NW France. He studied at the University of Paris and became first a secretary to Charles VI and then to the dauphin (later Charles VII). His work covers many subjects and forms, but is characterized by its exemplary elegance and Latinate style, such as Livre des quatre dames (1415) and Quadrilogue invectif (1422). His poems, mainly allegories, include La Belle Dame sans merci, Le Lay de paix, and Le Bréviaire des nobles. |
