| Writer, born in Nieuw Vossemeer, SW Netherlands. He worked as a journalist, and wrote naturalist novels. His great success was the Merijntje Gijzen-cyclus (8 vols, 1925–38) an autobiographical story about a little boy from Brabant called Merijntje Gijzen. De Jong was a great story teller and very popular with a wide audience. He also wrote the children's comic De wereldreis van Bulletje en Bonestaak (1921–35). He was murdered during the War. |
