| Dancer, choreographer, and teacher, born in St Petersburg, NW Russia. He danced in Anna Pavlova's first tours (1908–9), also joining Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. From 1911 he travelled the world with the company, remaining in the USA after the 1916 tour. He was closely associated with the Chicago Civic Opera and the companies now known as American Ballet Theatre and San Francisco Ballet. |
