| biography:
| Psychiatrist, born in Niederweningen, W Switzerland. After medical and psychiatric training in Zürich and elsewhere, he emigrated to the USA in 1892, and held posts in a number of universities and psychiatric hospitals, including Johns Hopkins Medical School (1910–41). He sought to integrate psychiatry and medicine, seeing mental disorder as the consequence of unsuccessful adjustment patterns. |
