| Prussian politician, born in Goslar, C Germany. He became Prussian minister of culture (1930–2), leader of a religious socialist movement, and was imprisoned (1942–5). In 1948–56 he served as minister of culture of Lower Saxony and as director-general of NWDR (Nordwestdeutscher Rundfunk). The German Volkshochschul-Verband named the Adolf-Grimme prize for distinguished television productions after him. |
