| biography:
| Ceramicist, born in Middletown, Connecticut, USA. Beginning as a china decorator, she studied painting with William Merritt Chase. Marriage to Samuel E Robineau (1899) led to their publication of the periodical Keramik Studio and a 1901 move to Syracuse, NY, where they established her studio, Four Winds. In 1903 she began making fine porcelain vases in the Art Nouveau style, specializing in delicate carved and openwork decoration. At the Turin exposition (1911), her 55 porcelains, notably Scarab Vase, were declared best in the world, and her artistry and dedicated teaching drew many awards and honours. |
