| biography:
| Poet and playwright, born in Copenhagen, Denmark. He studied law at Copenhagen, but turned to writing, becoming the leader of the Danish Romantic movement. His fame rests mainly on his 24 tragedies, beginning with Hakon Jarl (1807), based on the life of a national hero. In 1810 he was made professor of aesthetics at Copenhagen. |
