| Graphic artist and painter, born in Tyumen, Russia. He emigrated to New York City (c.1889), studied at the National Academy of Design (1894, 1898), and in Paris (1906–7), and returned to New York. A Modernist, he was influenced by the French artists known as Fauvists (‘wild beasts’). Noted for his ability to use line to convey motion, he produced thousands of drawings of Isadora Duncan. |
