| Book dealer and collector, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He studied at the University of Pennsylvania, then joined his brother Philip in the antique business (1902), branching out to sell rare books and manuscripts. As a dealer, he helped assemble the volumes at the core of such institutions as the Huntington Library and the Folger Shakespeare Library. He also became one of the world's major collectors, and wrote several books, such as A Book Hunter's Holiday (1936). |
