| biography:
| Physicist, born in New York City, USA. He studied at Cornell, Harvard, Copenhagen, and Geneva universities, and became professor of physics at Harvard in 1967. He was a major contributor to the Glashow–Salam–Weinberg theory explaining electromagnetic and weak nuclear forces, and to the theory of quantum chromodynamics. He shared the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1979. |
