| biography:
| Priest, born in Lyon, SC France. He served with distinction during World War 2, becoming a member of the Resistance movement in 1942. Elected a deputy in the Constituent Assembly after the war, he resigned to concentrate on helping the homeless of Paris (1951). Forming his band of Companions of Emmaus (French, Association Emmaüs), he provided, with little monetary assistance, at least a minimum of shelter for hundreds of families, and finally secured the aid of the French government in dealing with this problem. He received the Légion d'Honneur in 1980. |
