| Physicist, born at Terling Place, Essex, SE England, UK, the son of Lord Rayleigh. He became professor of physics at the Imperial College of Science (1908–19). Noted for his work on rock radioactivity, he became a fellow of the Royal Society in 1905 and a Rumford medallist. His writings include two biographies - one of his father, the other of Sir Joseph Thomson. |
