| biography:
| Architect and patron of the arts, born in London, UK. A great admirer of Palladio, he was himself an enthusiastic architect. He refashioned the Burlington House in Piccadilly of his great-grandfather, the 1st earl, and by his influence over a group of young architects was responsible for fostering the Palladian precept which was to govern English building for half a century. |
