| biography:
| Administrator, born in London, UK. He served in military intelligence (1939–45), then spent two years with the British Overseas Airways Corporation. He was chairman of the Agricultural Research Council (1948–58), assistant director of the department of zoology at Cambridge (1950–70), and research director/co-ordinator of Shell UK. From 1971–4 he was in government service as director-general of the central policy review staff. |
