| Conservative statesman, born in London, UK, the son of Robert Cecil (3rd Marquess of Salisbury). He studied at Oxford, was called to the bar (1887), and entered parliament in 1903. He was minister of blockade (1916–18), and president of the League of Nations Union (1923–45). He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1937. |
