| biography:
| British nobleman. He was estranged from his family at an early age, and lived for a while in a Bloomsbury boarding house until, having been invalided out of the Coldstream Guards in 1940, he became a house agent, journalist, and farmer in South Africa. After succeeding to the title he became well known for his energetic and successful efforts to keep Woburn Abbey for the family, by running it commercially with popular amenities and amusements. |
